What is Conscious Uncoupling?

Conscious Uncoupling is a powerful and transformative one-to-one coaching programme for individuals who are or have experienced a separation, break up or divorce and are looking to release the relationship in a healthy way. 

The goal of Conscious Uncoupling is to consciously complete the relationship that has ended, before beginning the next chapter. It helps to navigate the challenging emotions that surface both during and after a break-up. The programme is specifically designed to facilitate learning and personal growth from the experience, ensuring that you do not carry unresolved emotional baggage into subsequent relationships, repeat similar patterns with future partners, and ensuring your heart remains open to future connections.

How does it work and what can I expect?

Katherine Woodward Thomas’s book 'Conscious Uncoupling: 5 Steps to Living Happily Even After' is used as the foundational resource for the sessions. Each week, in preparation for our session, you will read that week's chapter and do the recommended exercises. We meet for individual one-to-one coaching sessions, lasting 50 mins, usually weekly, to nurture and deepen your insights and understanding. The programme can be completed over a 8-12 week period. I work with clients from all over the world remotely online, and I also see clients in-person who are local to Bedfordshire, UK.

Who can benefit from coaching?

The programme is aimed at people of all ages, gender identities and sexual orientations, with a primary focus on:

  • Individuals who finds themselves still carrying trauma from a previous break up, perhaps years or even decades later,

  • Individuals who are in the midst of a breakup and are navigating a current separation and want to do so in a healthy and respectful way for all parties - especially if there are children involved.

  • Individuals who are in the complex decision-making position of deciding if they want to leave their relationship, or stay and see if reconnection and healing with their current partner is possible.

Is Conscious Uncoupling intended only for romantic relationships?

Nope. While the book primarily addresses romantic relationships,
you might encounter moments in your life when parting ways with many different kinds of relationships becomes a necessity for your wellbeing. Throughout our lives, relationships such as f
riendships, professional, and familial relationships, may no longer serve us. Fortunately, you can apply the principles of the Conscious Uncoupling process to navigate any relationship breakdown achieving equally transformative results.

Can I do this without my former partner?

Yes, absolutely! The Conscious Uncoupling process is for individuals, and is effective whether or not your former partner participates or provides support. The course centres on your journey and emotional freedom. Although it is beneficial when both individuals engage in the process with their own individual coaches, the reality is that most people do it alone. Conscious breakups often arise when one person takes the initiative, and fortunately, this is an approach that doesn't need the involvement of both parties.

Will this be a good fit for my situation?

To ensure the coaching programme is for you, I offer a free 20-minute consultation by phone or Zoom, to make sure that it’s a fit for you. If you decide to go ahead, we can begin with just one introductory session, during which I will assess your current situation and orientate you to the programme. Throughout our work together, I will adapt the Conscious Uncoupling™ programme to best serve your individual situation and specific needs.

How can coaching help me and my family?

My unique position lies in my specialist psychological expertise in the field of mental health and wellbeing of children. I have a decade of experience supporting parents and families in evidence-based parenting strategies in relation to their child's emotional and behavioural development, and now  I support parents who are undergoing a separation or divorce, to do so as peacefully and harmoniously as possible.

Beyond guiding you through the Conscious Uncoupling process for personal transformation, my mission extends to supporting parents and carers seeking a path through separation that enables the flourishing and development of all children involved, recognising the impact on both young and adult children.
